Frequently Asked Questions about service and fire protection

How often must fire extinguishing systems be inspected?

According to the Fire Prevention Act and NFPA 96 standards, fire extinguishing systems in commercial kitchens must be inspected at least twice a year (every 6 months). For maritime applications (vessels), the requirements are even stricter, with quarterly or monthly checks depending on the type of vessel and system. We ensure that all inspections comply with current regulations and are documented in your service log.

What does a service visit cost?

The cost of a service visit varies based on several factors:

  • Type of system: Kitchen fire suppression, gas systems, or special maritime systems
  • Number of units: More systems = better price per unit
  • Geographic location: Distance from our service base
  • Service agreement: Annual contracts provide lower prices

Contact us for a non-binding quote tailored to your needs. We offer flexible service agreements that provide predictable costs and priority service.

Do you provide service throughout all of Norway?

Yes, we provide service and maintenance throughout all of Norway. Our service team can be at your location within 1-3 business days for regular service assignments and same day for urgent needs.

Do you offer service agreements?

Yes! We offer flexible annual service agreements that include:

  • Scheduled inspections according to regulatory requirements
  • Priority response for emergency calls
  • Discount on parts and additional services
  • Digital service log and automatic reminders
  • Fixed annual cost - no surprises

A service agreement ensures that your systems are always up to date and compliant, while you gain better budget control.

Are you certified for maritime fire suppression systems?

Yes, MorayFS has extensive experience and certifications for servicing fire suppression systems on vessels. We work with systems approved by classification societies such as DNV, Lloyd's Register, and ABS. Our technicians are trained in maritime-specific requirements and can assist with both routine inspections, emergency repairs, and certifications for international waters.

What happens if I skip a service inspection?

Skipping mandatory inspections can have serious consequences:

  • Insurance: Your insurance may not cover damages if service is not up to date
  • Legal liability: Violations of the Fire Prevention Act can result in fines and operational shutdowns
  • Safety: Unserviced systems may fail when you need them most
  • Maritime: Vessels may be detained in port until inspections are current

We send reminders before scheduled services so you're never late. Contact us immediately if you've missed an inspection.

Can you install new fire suppression systems?

Yes, MorayFS offers complete solutions from design to installation:

  • Risk assessment and system dimensioning
  • Selection of approved equipment for your application
  • Professional installation by certified technicians
  • Testing and commissioning
  • Training of your staff
  • Ongoing service and support

We work with leading brands like Ansul R-102, Ansul Piranha, and Pyro-Chem to ensure you get a solution tailored to your specific needs.

How long does a service visit take?

A standard service visit for one kitchen fire suppression system typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on system complexity and condition. Maritime systems may require more time due to stricter documentation requirements. We always strive to complete the work efficiently while maintaining thorough quality control. For larger installations or multiple systems, we can schedule work outside normal business hours to minimize disruption to your operations.

What documentation do I receive after service?

After each service visit, you receive:

  • Service report with detailed description of work performed
  • Updated service log (digital or physical)
  • Approval label affixed to the system
  • Photos of critical components (if relevant)
  • Recommendations for any necessary repairs or upgrades
  • Certificates (for maritime applications)

All documentation is stored securely and is available upon request for inspections by authorities or insurance companies.

Do you offer training for our staff?

Yes, we provide customized training programs for your employees:

  • Basic fire safety: How to prevent fires in kitchens
  • System operation: Manual activation and shutdown procedures
  • Emergency response: What to do when the system activates
  • Maintenance routines: Daily and weekly checks
  • Regulatory requirements: Overview of relevant standards

Training can be conducted on-site or in groups and is adapted to your industry (restaurants, maritime, industrial kitchens).

Can you service other brands besides Ansul?

Yes, MorayFS is a multi-brand service center. While we specialize in Ansul systems (R-102, Piranha, Inergen), we also service:

  • Pyro-Chem kitchen systems
  • Kidde and Amerex systems
  • Gielle and Tyco systems
  • Various gas-based systems (FM-200, Novec 1230, CO2)
  • Older/discontinued systems

We maintain a broad parts inventory and have access to components for most brands on the market. Contact us even if you're unsure what type of system you have - we'll help identify it.

What is the difference between kitchen fire suppression and sprinklers?

Kitchen fire suppression systems are specifically designed for grease fires in commercial kitchens, using special chemicals that extinguish burning oil and create a vapor barrier. Sprinkler systems use water and are designed for general building protection. Kitchen systems are critical because water cannot extinguish grease fires - it can actually make them worse. Many commercial kitchens require both systems: sprinklers for the building and a dedicated kitchen system over cooking equipment.

Can I perform the service myself?

No, service of fire suppression systems must be performed by certified technicians. This is required by:

  • The Fire Prevention Act and associated regulations
  • Insurance companies
  • Manufacturers (to maintain warranties)
  • Classification societies (for maritime systems)

You can and should perform simple visual checks (weekly/monthly), such as verifying that there are no obstructions and that pressure gauges are in the green zone. But actual testing, adjustment, and component replacement must be done by professionals.

What happens if the system activates accidentally?

If your system activates (accidentally or intentionally), you should:

  1. Ensure safety: Verify that the fire is out and the area is safe
  2. Shut off gas/power: Turn off the energy supply to the cooking equipment
  3. Contact us immediately: The system must be recharged and reset by a technician
  4. Do not restart: The kitchen cannot be used until the system is functional again

We offer 24/7 emergency service and prioritize system discharges. Most systems can be recharged within a few hours. Note that you may need to clean the affected area before operation can resume - the extinguishing agent is non-toxic but requires cleanup.

How do I know which system is right for my kitchen?

The right system depends on several factors:

  • Type of cooking: Solid fuel (charcoal/wood) requires different systems than standard fryers
  • Kitchen size: Number and size of cooking appliances
  • Ventilation: Hood design and ductwork
  • Location: Land-based vs. maritime applications
  • Budget: Initial cost vs. long-term maintenance

We offer free site visits where we assess your needs and recommend the most suitable system. Contact us for a non-binding consultation.
